M I Hummel Marks of Authenticity

1.) Model Number

Every Hummel has it's own model number, which always stays the same. It is Hum 530 in this case. If the Hummel comes in several sizes, there is a slash after the model number, and an additional number. Most Hummels also have another number, the so caled " assembly number", which is used for internal quality control. It is applied when the piece is still soft. This is hard to see in this photo but it is there.

2.) Special Issue marking

This is only found on M. I. Hummel Club editions, on figurines from the Century Collection, on limied edition issues, issues being discountined or new editon Hummels and on annual objects.

3.) Limited Edition issue

These numbers appear only on limited edition special issues The Lower number represents the total number within the edition, and upper number the individual figure within that collection.

4.) Name of the figurine

The name of special issue Hummels is displayed here. Otherwise, it is attached to the side of the base.

5.) C in a circle

The small c in a circle signifies that this figurine has copyright protection

6.) Engraved year

The engraved year does not refer to the year in which the Hummel was manufactured, but rather to the year when the model and colour sample came into being.

7.) Trademark

This version was used from1991 until 1999. As this marking has changed over the years, it enables you to determine the period of a figurine's production.

8.) Painter's symbol

The porcelain painter who painted the face and the eyes signs the base with his nib. They usually also add the year. It was not added in this case, as it is already included in the special issue marking
